McCall had been commissioned by NASA to document the space program’s achievements, and so became a logical choice by MGM to design the campaign for 2001: A Space Odyssey. McCall did several posters for the film, but this is by far the rarest. This style C was only used in theaters presenting the film in Cinerama, and since not many theatres were set up for it, these posters were distributed in very small quantities.
